The short version
- No accounts. We never ask for your name, email or phone number in the app.
- Browsing the app sends nothing that identifies you or your phone.
- If you send a tip, we receive what you wrote, any photo you attached, and a random contributor ID created on your phone. Nothing about who you are.
- Your location never leaves your phone.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics, no data sold to anyone.
- Want something you sent removed? Email us your contributor ID (in the app under About).
Who we are
SipME 207 is a directory of happy hours and specials in Maine: an iPhone app (coming to the App Store) and this website, run by ClearSpan Consulting LLC ("we"). You can reach us by email.
Using the app without sending anything
Browsing specials, venues and the map only downloads public listings. Those requests carry no account, no contributor ID, and no identifier for your phone.
What stays on your phone
- Your location, if you allow it. The app uses it on your phone to sort places by distance (Near Me) and to pick the nearest area. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. Location is optional; the app works without it.
- Your settings: filter choices and any specials you've hidden.
- A record of the tips you've sent (Your Tips), so you can see what you sent and resend one that didn't go through.
- Your contributor ID (below), kept in the phone's secure storage.
We can't see any of this.
When you send a tip or confirm a special
Sending is always something you choose to do. When you do, we receive:
- What you send: the place, the special it's about, your answer (for example "still on" or "it's gone"), the date you saw it, and anything you write.
- A photo, only if you attach one, and only after you've ticked the box agreeing to share it. Location and camera details are removed on your phone before it's sent, and removed again when it reaches us.
- Your contributor ID: a random code the app made up on your phone. It isn't your phone's serial number, advertising ID, or any other hardware identifier, and it belongs to that one phone: it isn't synced to your other devices or restored to a new phone. It identifies a phone, not a person. We store a hashed form of it rather than the ID itself.
- Small technical details: the app version, and a random reference number for each tip so a resend can't create a duplicate and the app can show whether your tip was approved.
We don't receive your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, or any identifier that could be used to track you across other apps or websites.
Why we use it
- To review your tip and, if it checks out, update the listing.
- To limit how much one phone can send each day, and to block a phone that's sending abuse. That's what the contributor ID is for.
- To show you, in Your Tips, whether a tip has been approved.
A person reviews every tip before anything appears. What gets published is the special itself: the place, the deal, the days and times. Your contributor ID and anything identifying you are never published.
We use photos to read the specials off them. We don't currently show submitted photos in the app or on this website. If that changes, this policy will say so first.
Who else handles it
We don't sell, rent or share what you send for anyone's marketing. Two companies handle it on our behalf:
- Cloudflare carries traffic between the app and our servers, and hosts this website. Like any network provider it sees the IP address a request comes from. Our own servers don't record your IP address.
- Anthropic provides an AI model we use to draft a listing from a tip and its photo. A person checks every draft before anything is published. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic may not train its models on what we send, and it deletes it within 30 days.
Everything else, including the listings and the tips you've sent, is stored on servers we run ourselves. There are no advertising, analytics or tracking tools in the app or on this website.
Tips sent by email
Until the app is out, you can send tips by email. Email isn't anonymous: we see your email address and whatever you send. We use it only to read your tip and reply to you. We never publish your address, never add you to a mailing list, and will delete your emails if you ask.
How long we keep it
We keep tips and confirmations as the record of where each listing came from, for as long as we run the directory, unless you ask us to remove them.
Getting something removed
Email us with your contributor ID. You'll find it in the app under About → Your Contributor ID. We'll find everything sent under that ID and delete it, photos included.
A special itself (a bar's happy hour) isn't personal information. If others have told us about it too, the listing may stay, but your tips and photos will be gone.
If you've deleted the app and don't have your ID, tell us roughly what you sent and when, and we'll do our best to find it.
